What the notice actually said

The ELD swap in the yard is the Monday job, not a press-release recap. FMCSA pulled 12 devices for failing Appendix A and gave carriers 60 days; after July 20, 2026 a revoked box was no ELD and out of service.

This is the twelve-device list, not the August five or the spring fourteen. Only identifiers and the calendar change. If your shop already lived through May 4 and April 14, you know July 20.

The agency said 79 devices had been removed since January 2025. That number is the year’s hygiene score. It is not a ban on electronic logs, and it is not one grace date for every clone ever sold.

Motive is still not a clone. The registered list is the only list that counts after a grace window closes.

Relist is possible if the provider fixes Appendix A. Do not bet MC# 875229 on a vendor promising they will be back next week. Check eld.fmcsa.dot.gov/List.

What it changes on Monday

We standardized on Motive. A lease or owner-operator box still has to match the live registered list before that truck is dispatched.

If a partner says “we swapped after the July one,” ask which July and which identifier. We still inspect the box. Paper is a bridge only during a live grace window — not a lifestyle.

Companion so the year pile does not swallow this calendar: the 79-device statistic. Later lists on this blog: August five and fourteen.

Owner-operators: the logger is onboarding, not optional. Start at the OO page. Dispatch confirms the device at +1 (847) 702-8181.

What we will — and will not — do

We will run a registered ELD and we will sit a revoked one. We will not put a bargain logger in a 2026 Volvo to save a subscription.

We will not quote 79 as a fuel surcharge or treat a year statistic as your citation. Your identifier is the ticket.

Questions about a specific box: call the desk. +1 (847) 702-8181. Bring the device name, not a Facebook ad.

Short glossary

The jargon, in the order it showed up — no extra theory.

Appendix A
Technical spec for ELDs in 49 CFR Part 395. Fail it, leave the registered list.

FAQ

Is July 20 still future?

No. That grace date has passed. This page is the record of the twelve-device bulletin and the 79-count sentence.

79 devices — ours?

Only if you bought a revoked identifier. Check the live list; the year total is not a citation by itself.

Paper forever?

Paper or software logs are a bridge only during a grace window. After July 20, 2026 a revoked box was no ELD.

Who pays?

The USDOT on the door. The motor carrier owns the logger duty, not the shipper’s DAT post.
