Five ELDs just got pulled. You have until October 6 — Motive fleets, still check the list
FMCSA revoked five ELDs on August 6, 2026; carriers have until October 6 to swap, and after that a revoked unit is treated as no ELD at all.

Five identifiers, not five brand slogans
In the shop, the first thing to check is not the box art. It is the identifier in the device menu — MRS255, HRS169, HIG385, TRS263, SPARK6 — against FMCSA’s registered list. Marketing names change. Identifiers are what the bulletin revoked.
On August 6, 2026, FMCSA Administrator Derek D. Barrs said the devices failed the minimum technical requirements in 49 CFR Part 395, Appendix A to Subpart B. The bulletin lists five units. If you manage a mixed fleet or you are about to lease someone on, read the identifiers, not the Facebook caption.
- UZB2USA INC — Moonlight ELD, model MRS, identifier MRS255
- HGRS — HGRS ELD, model HGR, identifier HRS169
- Highest ELD — model HIG4ES, identifier HIG385
- Truckford ELD — model TRS, identifier TRS263
- Spark Technologies Inc. — Sparkle ELD, model PT40SIM, identifier SPARK6
If a vendor later fixes the deficiencies, FMCSA can put the device back on the registered list. The agency still tells carriers not to wait on that hope. Put October 6, 2026 on the shop calendar, and check eld.fmcsa.dot.gov/List before you buy a replacement — the same list we talk about in the ELD vetting overhaul note.
FMCSA says it will email the industry. Do not wait for an email that lands in spam. Confirm the bulletin and the live list on FMCSA.gov; this page is a desk translation of that bulletin, not a substitute for it.
What to do this week if the identifier matches
Confirm the ELD identifier in the device menu, not the box art. If it matches a revoked ID, stop using it for official logs once you have a paper or software backup, then order a registered replacement. Until October 6, inspectors are told to take those backup logs instead of citing “no RODS” or “not a registered ELD.”
Match the sticker and the login, not the marketing name on a Facebook ad. After October 6, “the vendor said they’re fixing it” is not a defense at the scale.
After October 6, 2026, running a revoked unit is treated as running with no ELD. The cite is 395.8(a)(1), and the driver can be placed out of service under CVSA criteria. That is how a $200 clone becomes a missed Aurora pickup.
This does not change a shipper rate. It can idle a truck that bought the wrong box. If you are a broker tendering to a named MC, ask whether the truck’s logger is on the live list — especially on a lease-on or a partner you have not run before. Our own standard is Motive; see owner-operator terms if you are the person bringing the box.
Where our trucks sit — and what we will do if that ever changes
We standardized on Motive ELD. That is a fleet decision, not a claim that no registered list will ever change. If Motive or any other vendor we use were revoked, this page would get a date and a swap plan the same day.
What we will not do is dispatch a partner or a new lease whose identifier matches MRS255, HRS169, HIG385, TRS263, or SPARK6 after we have seen it. What we will do is check the identifier before the truck is dispatched, and say no if the box is on the revoked list.
Owner-operators leasing on: your logging device is part of the on-board file. Dispatch and safety will ask before you get a load. Call +1 (847) 702-8181 if you need that conversation before you buy a replacement, or start at Drive With Us if you want a company seat that already has Motive in the cab.
Short glossary
The jargon, in the order it showed up — no extra theory.
- ELD
- Electronic Logging Device: the unit that records hours of service; most interstate property carriers must use a device from FMCSA’s registered list.
- Registered list
- FMCSA’s public list of ELDs that may be used to satisfy the mandate; revoked devices are moved off that list.
- RODS
- Record of duty status — the log — and “no RODS” is the 395.8(a)(1) citation inspectors use after the grace period.

FAQ
Is Motive on this revocation list?
Not in the August 6 bulletin. Re-check eld.fmcsa.dot.gov/List if you hear a rumor, because the live list is what counts.
Can I keep using a revoked ELD as a backup screen?
Until October 6, inspectors may use the display as a backup while you produce paper or software logs. After that date, a revoked device is treated as no ELD.
Who pays for the replacement?
The motor carrier. The vendor’s failure is not a free pass for the USDOT number on the door.
Does this change a shipper rate?
No. It can idle a truck that bought a $200 clone, which is a coverage problem, not a new linehaul number.
