Colorado: 22% sampled illegal, including a 2016 policy to license Mexican nationals. $24 million and decertify talk

Colorado’s sample failed at about 22 percent, with a 2016 policy on Mexican nationals named; $24 million and decertify talk are the hammers.

What the notice actually said

Denver appointment, two hours on the clock: the dock still wants a time, and FMCSA still wants a CDL program that follows federal non-domiciled rules. About 22 percent of Colorado non-domiciled CDLs in the audit were illegal.

Mexican-national non-domiciled issuance is explicitly restricted under the federal CDL framework FMCSA is enforcing. A 2016 policy that ignored that is the sentence that makes this page different from “another eight-year default” states.

Expiration past lawful presence is the second named hole. USDOT’s other complaint in the release is a slow-walk on the purge — not a claim that every Colorado Class A is fake.

Decertify is a bigger hammer than a withhold. In the release it is still a threat, not an Illinois scale script.

$24 million in highway funds is the dollar stick. Program decertification is the structural stick. Neither one is a reason to refuse a legal I-70 pickup.

What it changes on Monday

Denver freight is still a lane. A Colorado CDL is not automatically a no. A non-domiciled credential that the state has not accounted for is a dispatch stop.

We will not staff a mystery CDL to save $80 on a Front Range drop. If the card cannot be verified this week, that truck sits and we cover with a legal one — or we say no.

Send the load through Get a Quote. Dry-van equipment and appointments: dry van and deferred loading.

Parent audit: June 2025 launch. Keep Colorado’s 22 percent off a Wisconsin card.

What we will — and will not — do

We will quote I-70 when the empty fits and the license checks. We will not invent a “Colorado decertify” surcharge, and we will not run a non-domiciled card the state has been told to purge.

We will not litigate immigration on a blog or in a rate con. We verify the card; we hire or we don’t.

Dispatch: +1 (847) 702-8181. Human on the desk if the question is a specific driver this week.

Short glossary

The jargon, in the order it showed up — no extra theory.

Decertify
USDOT can, in extreme cases, pull a state’s CDL program certification — a bigger stick than a dollar withhold.
Lawful presence
The status window that should cap a non-domiciled commercial credential.

FAQ

Is 22% of Colorado CDLs illegal?

No. It is a sample of non-domiciled records. Do not paste that percentage onto every Colorado Class A.

Mexican national with a valid visa CDL?

Federal non-domiciled rules are specific. We verify the card; we do not litigate immigration on a blog.

I-70 pickup?

Legal truck. Quote it. A funding threat and decertify talk are not a corridor closure.
