75 CDL schools under investigation. A clean training record is not optional on our desk
USDOT and HSI are investigating about 75 entry-level CDL schools for fake certifications; nearly 10,000 providers are already off the registry.

What the joint operation is actually doing
Safety pulled a hire file this morning and the training-school line did not match the Training Provider Registry. That is the conversation the July 16 announcement is really about. A license is state-issued. A school that sold a certificate without the hours is a story we will ask about before anyone gets keys.
On July 16, 2026, FMCSA identified roughly 75 ELDT schools suspected of fraud. USDOT is folding DHS Homeland Security Investigations into those cases. Secretary Duffy’s quoted tally in the same release includes large numbers for English-proficiency roadside actions, state license cancellations, and training-school removals. Those are department figures. We cite them as the agency’s claim and point you to the original.
December 2025: mass removal of training providers from the registry — the department says nearly 10,000 since late 2025. February 2026: 550+ proposed removals. July 2026: HSI as a force multiplier. The direction of travel is not subtle, and it is not a freeze on new CDL hires at a carrier that already calls previous employers.
Look up a school on the Training Provider Registry before you pay tuition, and confirm the July 16 release on FMCSA.gov if you need the department’s categories. We will not invent a court outcome for those 75 files, and we will not treat a registry removal as a rumor.
Why a shipper should care who trained the person at the door
A CDL that was purchased, not trained, becomes everyone else’s crash risk. If you want the driver on your dock to have actually backed a 53′ once, do not buy the cheapest mystery carrier on a load board because the rate was $80 low. The school file and the carrier file are how that risk gets on your concrete.
A certificate from a school that no longer exists on the registry is a yellow flag, not a trophy.
Ask for MC, USDOT, and a packet. For Brokers is ours — W9, COI, authority, MC# 875229, USDOT# 2486192. A named asset-based carrier with a hire desk that calls previous employers is a different product from a cell-phone dispatch that treats a mill diploma as orientation.
This does not freeze new CDL hires at PRIDEUSA. It makes us more skeptical of thin files. If you trained at a school that later got dropped, you can still apply with a valid CDL and real miles after school. We will ask about the school. We will believe the miles we can verify. See Drive With Us if that is your file.
How we hire around mill paper
We prefer 2+ years CDL-A; we will look at 1+ on some seats. We call previous employers. A certificate from a school that no longer exists on the registry is a yellow flag, not a trophy. We are a carrier, not a training school, and we will say that if someone asks us to “finish” a CDL.
What we will not do is put a mill diploma in a 2020+ Volvo and hope the dock teaches backing. What we will do is read the registry, call the last two employers, and pass on a file that is only a certificate.
Drivers: apply. Do not send us a diploma from a school currently in an HSI file and expect orientation next Tuesday. Dispatch is +1 (847) 702-8181 if you are a shipper who wants the packet, not a lecture. Confirm a school on tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov before you write a tuition check — this page is not legal advice and it is not a school endorsement.
Short glossary
The jargon, in the order it showed up — no extra theory.
- ELDT
- Entry-Level Driver Training: the federal training standard behind many first CDLs, which a registry school is supposed to actually provide.
- Training Provider Registry
- FMCSA’s list of schools allowed to provide required ELDT; removal means that school cannot check that federal box.
- HSI
- Homeland Security Investigations, the DHS investigative arm named in the July 16 release as a force multiplier on the fraud cases.

FAQ
Does this freeze new CDL hires at PRIDEUSA?
No — it makes us more skeptical of thin files. We still hire licensed drivers whose miles we can verify.
I trained at a school that got dropped. Can I still apply?
Yes, with a valid CDL and real miles after school. The license is state-issued; the school is the story we will ask about.
Is PRIDEUSA a training school?
No — we are a carrier. We hire CDL-A and do not sell a first license or check an ELDT box for you.
Shipper takeaway?
Tender to a named asset-based MC with a packet. Cheap capacity with no file is how bad paper gets on your dock.
